Just got my hands on the leap free developer unit, dev board version 06.5 device delivered through FedEx(mentioning the service because I found many asking this question on forums).
 
   If you're a developer and not afraid to try and create something new you could apply for a free device here and if you succeed to impress them with your app synopsis you might actually earn one.

  I ran a demo app sample of air piano(kidding!) of a DOM visualizer and as you can see for yourself the gestures are caught quite precisely.
